I want to talk about smiling. Before I go further I want to say that I have no expertise on anything that qualifies me to give stats and figures on why smiling is awesome. If you need or want that, here’s a great article for you.
What I can tell you is that I love to smile and laugh. If I can smile or laugh with someone, even a perfect stranger, they instantly become one of my favourite people. I have a lot of favourite people. Another thing I love is my bike. So a few weeks ago, around Canada Day (July 1) I saw from a distance a rider who had decorated their bike with Canada’s white and red colour scheme. The bike was riddled with lights and flags, it was cheesy and absolutely awesome! It made me smile. Day made! Then a few days after Canada day I was cycling home after a shift that ended at 11pm. I was in a great mood and looking forward to bed when I crossed paths with said cyclist. Her bike was light up like a big mobile Canadian Christmas tree and I just had to meet the person responsible for so much simple joy! So I flagged her down and simply told her that I love what she did with her wheels. We struck up a conversation and she graciously let me take her picture and asked that I send it to her on Facebook. I snooped around the page a little bit and saw that Celia is an avid cyclist and an absolute Canadian girl. What an unsung treasure! As I finished my ride home I reflected on how cool it was that a complete stranger made my day and put a smile on my face not once but twice without even knowing it.
So my challenge this weekend, I put out there in honour of Celia the Patriotic Cyclist.
Make a complete stranger smile. Then comment below or on my Facebook page and share the experience. How did it make you feel?
